ADHD, also called attention-deficit disorder, is characterized by inattention, impulsivity, and, in some cases, hyperactivity. While these symptoms usually occur together, there may be causes in which one occurs without the other. Available evidence suggests that ADHD is genetic. Low levels of specific brain chemicals create a biological component to this disorder.Â
